Deep Red
Melvin "DEEP RED BOYCE II" started is spoken word journey, at the age of 18. He found that words helped him articulate his passion for humanity.
Deep red has performed on stages from Madison Square Garden to the corner coffeehouse. He has had his work published in Michael Jordan's Survival guidebook. You can also find his worked published in the Onyx anthology: Los Angeles poets. Currently Deep Red has been on the road promoting his album "Involuntary chameleon". This album takes a tough look at the challenges young girls and women face in this society. Deep red just finished his first documentary short film: BIRTHMARK. This film follows the life of Samara Lycain as she confronts her past history of sexual abuse. The story is told through poetry vignettes and interviews with other abused and healed girls in her community. Deep Red also performed on the first season of Def Poetry Jam, with his poetry idols Sonia Sanchez and the Last Poets. For the last 5 years Deep red has taught at the Amazing Grace conservatory in Los Angeles , Ca. Deep Red's poetry class uses poetry to build self-esteem in his young students. Deep red is finishing his Master's Degree in sociology at Illinois State University . He plans on getting his Doctorate in Women's studies with an emphasis on the effects of abuse on girls of color.
